Seaweeds at Night

Seaweeds at night

It does not happen often, but there are days when the visibility underwater is acceptable even in bays of North Shore in Auckland. By saying ‘acceptable’ I mean more than five metres. That sort of visibility also means backscatter is not such na issue, even at night.

I’ve made this picture in Browns Bay at late evening. On the right side of the beach there is a rocky cliff. Under it there is a flat reef reaching tens of metres into the bay. Some parts of the reef are covered with pastures of brown weeds. Clearly visible pneumatocysts allow them to float and move in the rhythm of the swell.
