Leatherjacket among Seaweeds

This is Matheson Bay on a good day. For me it’s almost unbelievable how the visibility can change there. Usually it’s a couple of metres … that means it’s diveable, but nothing great. Sometimes it can get very murky. Zero visibility on the beach, 1-3 metres at the island. Then there are those good days. Water is so clear, you cannot understand how it can get so dirty.

Unfortunately there are not many fish in the bay. The place is good for macro, I like its kelp growth, the density of octopuses is surprising. But fish are scarce. There is often nothing to watch, unless you specialise in leatherjackets. By the way, they are very cool.
